James Thornburg, 29, of North Platte is in the Lincoln County jail for failure to register as a sex offender, failure to report a change of employment and failure to report every 12 months. He was picked up on a warrant by the Nebraska State Patrol. He was working in the Dunning area as a ranch hand when he was arrested. In county court, Thornburg requested a public defender and his bond set at $25,000. He is charged with two counts of failure to report and one count of failure to report a change of employment. Thornburg’s charges date to October 2011 after an altercation with his girlfriend. Thornburg’s estranged girlfriend told investigators that she wanted to end the relationship, which angered her boyfriend. She said he confronted her, threw her to the ground and forced himself on her. Thornburg and the woman have children together, according to prosecutors. Also in court:
Vencil Larry Dean Vencil, 47, of North Platte, is charged with fraud for the unauthorized use of a transaction device, over $1,500. According to county court records, Vencil was arrested Feb. 6 for falsely using a debit card from early August 2012 until late November 2012. He told Lincoln County Judge Kent Turnbull he would hire his own attorney and his bond was set at $10,000.
