Nebraska’s youth-led tobacco prevention movement -- No Limits -- is sponsoring the two-day training and rally for junior high and high school kids.

Kick Butts Day is a global day of activism sponsored by the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids that helps youth stand out, speak up and seize control against big tobacco companies, organizers said.

Kick Butts demonstrations are planned at more than 1,000 events across the U.S. and around the world. Nebraska’s event is one of the largest, organizers say.

No Limits youth activists will meet one-on-one with state lawmakers March 20 to discuss key tobacco issues. The event wraps up with a march through downtown Lincoln and a rally on the steps of the Nebraska State Capitol.

“An estimated 15 percent of Nebraska high school students are smokers," project coordinator Jessi Huenink said. "And every year, another 2,000 Nebraska teens become daily tobacco users. Kick Butts Day is an opportunity for No Limits youth activists to speak directly to their lawmakers about tobacco issues.”

Participation in Kick Butts Day is free, including transportation and lodging for youth outside the Lincoln area, but registration is required. Because space is limited, those who need transportation and lodging must submit an application by Wednesday, Feb. 20.

More information and an application form are available at NoLimitsNebraska.com, or contact Huenink at 866-FYI-TEEN (866-394-8336) or jessi@nolimitsnebraska.com.
