The Sutherland girls basketball team defeated Paxton Thursday thanks to a strong fourth quarter. The game was nip and tuck through the first three quarters. Sutherland (16-5) led by one point at the end of three, 29-28, but outscored Paxton by 10 points in the final quarter. "We stepped up defensively and got some turnovers," Sutherland Coach Jason Gunderson said of the Sailors' fourth quarter effort. "We got some good defensive rebounds and hit our shots." Sutherland hit seven free throws down the stretch and only missed one in the entire game. Jaylyn Schuster scored 17 points to lead the Sailors' offense. Sam Staggs had 14. T. Holzfaster scored 14 for Paxton (9-10). Next, Sutherland plays highly ranked Kimball (13-3 in Class C-1) in the Sailors final game before district play begins.
