Shopko has completed the conversion of 163 Pamida stores, a merger that began a year ago, making the company one of the largest U.S. retailers serving smaller and rural communities. Existing Pamida stores were converted to “Shopko Hometown” stores, the company said. One year later, the conversion is complete with the final 36 stores celebrating their official grand openings as Shopko Hometown. Shopko spent at total of $70 million into the efforts. Today Shopko operates 176 Shopko Hometown stores. The Shopko Hometown stores combines pharmacy services with a broad offering of national brands and private label brands of apparel, toys, consumer electronics, seasonal items, and lawn and garden products –in attractive, well laid out, easy-to-shop store formats that range from 15,000-35,000 square feet, the company said.
