Alexander officially submitted a letter to the North Platte school board on Jan. 28. The board accepted it.

Alexander was suspended on Jan. 14 and placed on administrative leave while an investigation was conducted.

Retired North Platte Public Schools administrator Mike McPherron is acting Washington principal for the rest of the school year. McPherron retired in 2011 after spending several years at Buffalo Elementary and his last year at Cody Elementary.

No details of Alexander’s departure have been released, but superintendent Marty Bassett told the Bulletin Tuesday that it was a difficult decision.

He didn’t elaborate.

Bassett would not answer when asked if the cause was related to a personal or professional failure.

Alexander’s letter read simply, “I hereby resign from my employment and all other contractual obligations with the North Platte Public School District.”

The board met behind closed doors.

Alexander was principal at Washington since fall 2011. Before then, he was the principal at Eisenhower Elementary for three years.

This silence is going to lead to inaccurate, maybe slanderous speculation. For instance: "Was there inappropriate behavior?" If the answer was no an explanation is in order, if so, parents must be informed. Come on folks, we all know what people are thinking. The truth needs to come out.

No, in other words, if we tell you, we're violating 4 state laws.

So in other words "If we tell you why it will be a major embarrassment for everyone involved, so we aren't going to tell you."

According to the "other" print media... District Human Resources Director Tami Eshleman declined to comment further on the resignation, saying that the issue is considered a confidential employment matter subject to the provisions Nebraska statutes 79-539, 79-8, 109 and 84-1410, and shall not be released to the public or any news media.

Anyone that lives within the school district and contributes to his salary have the right to know what is going on. The bluntness of the resignation letter is interesting, normally people will at least write a paragraph and include bits about how they have been so blessed to work there and stuff, I kind of wonder if that letter was written out of angst and was a reaction to something we don't know about.
