Girls BB: Sutherland goes 1-1 over weekendTell North Platte what you think

Sutherland lost to Wauneta-Palisade Friday but rebounded to defeat Bertrand on Saturday.

“Wauneta Palisade (13-6) did a great job of pressing us both defensively and offensively,” Sutherland coach Jason Gunderson said. “We came out flat and didn't match their intensity or aggressiveness the first quarter. We dug ourselves a hole that we were not able to climb out of.”

Jalyne Schuster had 12 points for Sutherland and Joli Hopping, 11.

For Wauneta Palisade, Tailor Lee hit 15 points and Brianna Einspahr had 12.

Score by quarters:

WaPa: 16-13-10-15 - 54

Sutherland: 8-13-14-11 - 46

On Saturday, the Sailors finished strong to defeat Bertrand (10-10) by 20 points, 59-39.

Leading by just 3 points at halftime, Sutherland (14-5) scored 21 points in the third quarter to pull away.

“We did a better job playing with intensity,” Gunderson said. “We still had problems defensively not moving our feet. Tawnie McConnell did a great job coming off the bench adding energy to the team with her aggressive play.”

Score by quarters:

Sutherland: 13-10-21-15 – 59

Bertrand: 11-9-10-9 - 39
