The Wallace girls basketball team broke open a close game with 21 points in the fourth quarter Friday to beat Hayes Center, 65-53. Wallace (6-11) led 32-25 at halftime but Hayes Center (4-16) closed the gap to 44-39 to get within striking distance at the end of three, but the Wallace offense was too much for the Cardinals. The game was a rematch of a week earlier, when the teams faced off in the Republican Athletic Conference Tournament and Wallace won, 66-50. Christina Daniels scored 24 for Wallace and Chelsea Sowle had 14. For Hayes Center, Kasey Clifford scored 16 and Sarah Cox 11. Colby Cox chipped in nine points. Hayes Center Coach Matt Cox was happy with his team's effort in defeat. It was the Cardinals' final home appearance. He thanked the three seniors on the team for their leadership. "We still had problems with their size, but that has been the story of the year," Cox said.
