Great Plains Regional Medical Center’s Bariatric Surgery Center has been accredited as a Level 2 Bariatric Surgery by the Bariatric Surgery Center Network Accreditation Program of the American College of Surgeons.

That means that Great Plains Regional Medical Center has met essential criteria that ensures it is fully capable of supporting a bariatric surgery care program and that its performance meets the requirements outlined by the ACS BSCN Accreditation Program.

With this accreditation, Great Plains Regional Medical Center joins five other ACS BSCN accredited bariatric surgery centers in Nebraska, marketing specialist Megan Hanson said.

“Our bariatric weight loss program was developed in 2010 and serves 20 counties,” said Dr. Brendon Curtis, Great Plains Regional Medical Center general surgeon, “We have achieved exceptional outcomes with an ever expanding program and multi-disciplinary team. We are pleased that the ACS BSCN Accreditation Program has recognized our success in bariatric and weight loss excellence.”

The Great Plains Regional Medical Center bariatric weight loss program consist of surgeons Dr. Chris Seip, and Dr. Brendon Curtis, board certified general surgeons, and Dr. Michael Simonson, board eligible general surgeon.

The program’s weight loss management team provides support staff in nutrition counseling and exercise management before and after surgery; as well as psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural support for the patient and family.

The Bariatric Surgery Center currently offers sleeve gastrectomy, gastric banding and Roux-en-y gastric bypass surgery, Hanson said.
