A 21-year-old North Platte man held a suspected burglar at gunpoint Thursday night until deputies arrived to a rural home south of North Platte.

The suspect allegedly broke into a home in the hills on Old Highway 83 and acted like he owned the place.

The 21-year-old cam home to find Scott Hulse, 34, there around 8 p.m. Thursday, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office said.

The 21-year-old, who carried "a couple handguns" held the suspect at bay while he called his mother, who called 911, the sheriff's statement said.

Deputies found Hulse illegally in the house, the sheriff's statement said.

Hulse had eaten food, changed clothes and carried the keys to one of the vehicles in his pocket.

Hulse told deputies that it was his house, but the cops didn't buy it. They arrested him and charged him with burglary. His bond was set at $2,500.

Hulse served 19 days in the Lincoln County Jail a year ago for criminal trespassing and third-degree assault. When he was arrested, North Platte Police Spokesman Troy Erickson said Hulse forced his way into an acquaintance's apartment and asked to use the phone. He was told to leave but refused. He assaulted the resident during a scuffle and the resident went to a nearby business and called police. Hulse was still at the apartment when police came and arrested him, Erickson said.

In 2011, Hulse was charged with two counts of shoplifting in North Platte, according to county records.
