The North Platte Community College Knights Men’s Basketball team (16-4, 6-2 Region IX) picked up a road win on Tuesday night as they traveled to the new MCC Events Center and defeated the McCook Community College Indians (5-15, 1-9 Region IX), 63-47.
On a night where the leading scorer for the Knights Ethan Montalvo was held to only two points the Knights found large contributions from other sources.
Tim Simmons gave the Knights a huge spark off the bench, entering the game and leading all scorers with 19 points.
“I had a couple shots go down and that carried over to the defensive end of the floor,” said Simmons.
The Knights also got great contributions from Reath Jiech who chipped in 15 points and Ben Wilson who scored 13 and grabbed 9 rebounds.
Montalvo still found ways to help his team to a victory by leading the team with 4 steals and 3 rebounds.
The story of the game was the Knights defense which only gave up 47 points, its third best effort of the season. The Knights held the Indians to only one player in double figures as Antwaun Boyd put up 10 points in the losing effort.
The key stat in the game was again turnovers as the Knights took care of the ball and only had 10 while the Indians had 21.
“I thought in the first half our defensive effort was very good against a team that can be very explosive and in a big rivalry game,” said Knights head coach Kevin O’Connor.
The Knights return home for two subregion home games this week.
The first is a match-up with the Eastern Wyoming Lancers (12-8, 5-3 Region IX) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The game with the Lancers will follow the Lady Knights and will be broadcast on Rock 100 and ESPN radio. The Knights then host the Western Nebraska Cougars (8-11, 1-4 Region IX) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at McDonald-Belton Gymnasium.
The game will follow the Lady Knights who play the Northeast Lady Hawks at 5 p.m.
