Knights leading scorer Ethan Montalvo was held to only two points, but North Platte had large contributions from other sources. Tim Simmons gave the Knights a huge spark off the bench, leading all scorers with 19 points.

“I had a couple shots go down and that carried over to the defensive end of the floor,” said Simmons.

The Knights also got great contributions from Reath Jiech who chipped in 15 points and Ben Wilson who scored 13 and grabbed 9 rebounds.

Montalvo found ways to help his team with 4 steals and 3 rebounds.

North Platte is 16-4 overall and 6-2 in Region IX play.

McCook falls to 5-15 and 1-9 in Region IX.

In allowing only 47 points, the Knight defense giave its third best effort of the season. Only one Indian scored in double figures. Antwaun Boyd put up 10 points. The key stat in the game was turnovers as the Knights took care of the ball and only had 10 while the Indians had 21.

“I thought in the first half our defensive effort was very good against a team that can be very explosive and in a big rivalry game,” said Knights head coach Kevin O’Connor.

The Knights return home for two sub-region games this week. The first is against the Eastern Wyoming Lancers (12-8, 5-3 Region IX) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

The Knights then host the Western Nebraska Cougars (8-11, 1-4 Region IX) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at McDonald-Belton Gymnasium. That game will follow the Lady Knights, who play the Northeast Lady Hawks at 5 p.m.
