More middle school-age teams competed than ever Saturday in a jigsaw puzzle tournament, hosted by North Platte Public Library. The library raised more than $5,000 in the tournament, thanks to 57 teams that paid the registration fee, including 16 middle school teams, Library Director Cecelia Lawrence said. The annual jigsaw tournament is the first of a handful of fundraisers in 2013 for the library foundation. Kaycee Anderson, a researcher at the library, won the adult single division of the North Platte Public Library’s jigsaw puzzle for the fourth straight year. Anderson finished the puzzle by herself in 2 hours, 33.3 seconds. Her sister Linda Winder was second in 3:10.46. Julie Bunker and Sue McKain won the adult 2-person division, finishing their puzzle in an hour and 45 minutes, 15 minutes ahead of Katie Erickson and Sharon Thompson. The adult 4-person team winner was “Goats Rock” comprised of Allison, Dan, Andie and Laurel Huebner. They finished the puzzle in 3:20.49. Only two teams finished the complex 750-piece puzzle, which was the most difficult in the history of the tournament, Lawrence said. Heley Jackson and Anam Vaziri, a team from Eisenhower, won the 2-person elementary division, edging Leal Jordan and Leslie Sorto of Cody. Jackson and Vaziri finished in 53.2 minutes, two minutes 25 seconds ahead of Jordan and Sorto. In the middle school division, Phebe Pavelka and Meagan Rosenberg of Adams school trounced the competition, finishing more than an hour ahead of the nearest competitors. Pavelka and Rosenberg finished in 55.23 minutes. Rich Belflower and Don Collins of Madison were second in 1:59.05. Ten places were awarded to teams of middle and elementary school age. They were:
