Michael Kroeker, 32, of North Platte, was sentenced Monday to one-and-a-half to four years in the penitentiary for third-degree domestic assault - second offense.

Lincoln County Attorney Rebecca Harling asked for a penitentiary sentence, noting that this is Kroeker’s fourth arrest for domestic violence in two years. She said his level of violence has increased so much so that the latest victim needed surgery to repair her injuries.

District Judge Donald Rowlands gave Kroeker credit for 142 days in the county jail as he handed down the sentence.

Members of his latest victim’s family were in the courtroom wearing shirts that said “real men don’t hit women.” They seemed happy with the sentence.

Kroeker has a long list of prior charges. He was charged with assault in May 2010 as well as July and August 2011. He was charged with possession of marijuana and a contempt of court in August 2011, plus domestic assaults in December 2011 and September 2012. He was accused of a tampering with a witness in November 2012.

Kroeker was also a fugitive from Lancaster County in May 2008.
