A group known simply as "Patriot Packages" meets each month in Hershey to assemble care packages for local deployed troops and Soldier's Angels. The group meets at 5 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at the Paul R. Martin Post 279 American Legion in Hershey. "We are blessed and supported by our community with generous donations of cash for postage and to purchase certain supplies," organizer Barb Baldridge said. The most requested items from troops are jerky, homemade cookies and personal hygiene products. Baldridge said special thanks goes to Western Convenience Truck Stop for supplying fresh baked cookies and the veterans at the Hershey post for providing the space to continue this service. The young men and women who serve our country are so grateful for the care packages and heartfelt words of encouragement from home, Baldridge said. To join the effort, call Barb at 308-520-1613.
