An Omaha man who stole explosive devices and dumped them into the Missouri River was sentenced Monday to more than five years in federal prison. Travis McQueen, 28, pled guilty to knowing possession of stolen explosives. He will be on supervised released for three years after he gets out of prison, U.S. Attorney Deborah R. Gilg said. On Aug. 11, 2011, one or more persons broke into storage units at the Buckley Powder Company in rural Cass County and stole 100 pounds of blasting agent, 3,000 feet of detonating cord and two cases of boosters. Gilg said investigators place reward flyers around eastern Nebraska, and an anonymous caller contacted authorities and said McQueen might be involved. Investigators found that McQueen had been involved in disposing of the materials by throwing them into the river. Excavating equipment was brought in by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and investigators found some of the materials, leading them to believe the bulk of the stolen materials were, in fact, thrown into the river. The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms conducted the investigation, Gilg said.
