Huebner was one of three people in a pickup that failed to make a turn at the intersection of Platte Valley and Prairie Trace roads, a mile north of Sutherland. The wreck happened a few minutes after midnight, according to a Lincoln County Sheriff's statement.

The 1996 Ford F-250 pickup was driving west on Platte Valley Road. It went through the three-way intersection into the dirt bank of the west ditch of Prairie Trace Road.

Alcohol is believed to be involved in the accident and seatbelts were not in use, the sheriff's report said.

Two men in the pickup were injured -- Micah B. Koch, 24, and Jay D. Shotkoski, 28, both of Hershey.

All three victims were initially taken to Great Plains Regional Medical Center for injuries. From there, Huebner was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, according to the sheriff's office.

Lincoln County Sheriff's Office was informed around 7 a.m. that Huebner died as a result of her injuries.

Huebner was a 2012 nursing graduate of the University of Nebraska Medical Center. In 2007, she was honored with the Ak-Sar-Ben Horatio Alger award as a graduating senior of Hershey High School.

This is a great time to sit down with your family, friends, and loved ones to reinforce making the right decisions. It is really sad what happened here. Facebook photos from that night show a great night out drinking. Booze cruising, a past time for some...especially in the area, is dangerous. A lot of these kids/adults go out and do it. They do it for years and get a sense of invincibility. We all can make the decisions of our own. We can choose to take the keys from the driver, refuse voyage with them, and a friend and family member is always a call away. From the reactions here, Korey had many of them. I'm sure no one would turn down a call to be pick her up instead of getting in a car where they were suspected of continuing their night in the pickup. It is a sad reminder that our decisions we make not only affect 1 person's life but anyone else who is close to them. Don't live in fear, but don't live in stupidity. Enjoy life but make the decisions that are right. My heart bleeds for all involved, and a family like the Huebners where everyone is close, it will be extremely hard. I hope the driver understands that yes he messed up, but she also made the choice to get in the vehicle too.

No such thing as a accident always someone doing something they should not have done people got to think about what they do! It is very sad that this happened and a young lady lost her life they all made some very bad choices that night but this happens everyday anymore no common sense time for automatic seat-belts not buckled car won't start

PB. Your comments are insensitive. To say the least. Yes they made some bad decisions. Who among us haven't at some point in our lives. From everything I know she was a great young lady with a very bright future. My heart goes out to her and her family during this difficult time. :-(

Maybe, just maybe, others will learn that their choices have consequences. Maybe some other young person's life will be saved and this choice these young people made will have some good in the end. I feel incredibly sorry for the parents and family of this young girl who will have to live with the fact that she made a fatal mistake. No matter how you say it, she holds some cupability for her choice!

PB - You can comment about the article without putting down a young lady (and yes she was a lady) She was the sweetest person who always had a smile. I have read through the posts a couple of times and can not see where they "laude her as some kinda saint." as you say. And if you look up ACCIDENT in the dictionary it say....an unfortunate incident that happens unexpectedly or unintentionally, typically resulting in damage or injury. SO YES...this was an accident. Was it an avoidable accident? YES but an accident none the less. These were 3 friends who made a bad choice and now 2 of them and the countless others who were fortunate enough to know Korey will have to live with the consequences.

In my experience, people assign blame to shield themselves. They want to believe this cannot happen to them or their family. Everybody makes mistakes, most people don't die because of them. Have some compassion. You are not immune to tragedy, pointing fingers doesn't make you safe or better than anybody else.

I cannot find the report that she was not driving. So if outhers have more information they should share, I cannot see how anyone can call my comments horrible and hurtful. The simple fact is she was in a vehicle with two men and one of them was drinking and driving, she along with the two men were breaking the law by not wearing their seatbelts and her poor choice caused her life to expire far too early. What is so hateful about that? When will we start using things like this to show our children and others that personal responsibilty is important and your decisions may cost your life? This could be a great learning tool for children when they see her choices attributed to her death. Maybe they will think about their choices.

If she had killed someone beside herself she would have been called eveything but a lady, but because she only killed herself she is some kinda angel. Come on people have the same standard across the board. She is a drunk driver who killed herself, thank God it was not someone else and possibly their children. This was not an "ACCIDENT" it was a drunk driver. We should pray for her family but do not laude her as some kinda saint.

How is advising the use of seatbelts "Monday morning quarterbacking"? I'm just saying, lots of people cruise around on county backroads and they're not any safer than a city street!
