Ryan Kozisek, 31, of York County was found guilty by jury Friday of child abuse resulting in the death of his four-month-old daughter, Kayley Kozisek.
A jury returned the verdict Friday.
“Exactly two years ago, little Kayley’s life was cut too short after suffering severe abuse at the hands of her father,” Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning said. “Hopefully, today’s conviction will provide some justice for this baby girl.”
In January 2011, Kozisek claimed Kayley stopped breathing after her two-year old sister fell on her, but an autopsy showed multiple injuries that resulted in severe hemorrhaging and brain damage.
The injuries were later determined to be the result of abusive head trauma, Bruning said. Kozisek pleaded not guilty to the charge.
With the conviction, Kozisek could face life imprisonment for the crime. Sentencing is set March 18.
Assistant Nebraska Attorneys General Bill Tangeman and Michael Guinan handled the case.
