Demolition began Tuesday along the one-ways at the corner of Dewey and Francis, the former home of the Lincoln County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, Attitudes Hair Salon and various restaurants.

Owner Mark Wilkinson said in the future the lot will resemble the Cottonwood Plaza strip mall north of Wal-Mart, or the Riverside Plaza south of Wal-Mart. Wilkinson Development also owns those properties.

The two tiers of motel rooms that line the boundary of the property will stand and continue to operate, he said.

The motel has been closed for nearly a month for work on plumbing, electrical and sewer systems. It is expected to re-open by the end of this week. A new lobby and office is being built and room upgrades are underway, Wilkinson said.

Wilkinson said the new mini-mall might contain a little bit of everything.

“We’re going to wait for the people that are going in there to make the announcements, and we are always looking for new tenants,” he said.

In October, Wilkinson had said he was working with First National Bank on the possibility of a new four-lane drive up bank there, but the deal was not sealed.

Across Dewey St., Nebraskaland National Bank's new main bank, three-stories-tall, continues to take shape.

Popular opinion is the last thing I seek. A look at the difference between news and news entertainment is in order. IMPO. When everyone agrees, no one is thinking. :)

Gizz,I am about done here as well. The nut liberals destroyed and really good RE/ economics website at election time. It is coming back slowly. Sad, I see NP hasn't grown up any. Cracker barrel BS fueled by Kool Aid and parroting. Who needs thinking when we have artificial intelligences (Internet). LOL!

Buffets are nearly dead, they are just a hotbed for spreading disease. Just sit back and watch if you are at one at the amount of food is handled by anyone in the line and sat back down. At least in the other restaurants all the filth is hidden from the patrons.

all of you that want reall Italian you need to go to Bella Italia in Cozad!! worth the drive. Every plate made by the chef! out of this world!!! we will never get a place in Np like that so just drive to Cozad!

If you want Italian you need to be asking for real Italian. Olive Garden is not real Italian, its Italian style but nothing close to being any good. Its just the same as Chinese food, what you eat at Mongolian Grill is an Americanized version of Chinese food that is drowning in sauce and gravy. The last good Italian restaurant NP had was Henry Hill's place (RIP you dirty old fart).

I would love to see an Italian place! I used to love eating at Valentinos when it was still in business. You can still get pizza at the Cedar Bowl, but it's not the same.

Draggie..been here all along, just not getting involved...mostly. All the places folks are mentioning here are good places to eat. Problem is, the people of NP will not support a decent place to eat. They all want burgers, fries and cokes, thinkindg it's cheaper. Ever notice all the big butts here in NP? Fast food junkies. I'm really surprised Ruby Tuesday has lasted as long as it has here.

Hooters would be good in NP if they could find half decent waitresses from the local gene pool.

For once I agree with you draggie...a GOOD BBQ place would be great but BBQ is expensive. And the people of NP are so fickle, they will pay $20 at McD's for junk food before they will pay $15 for a quality meal at a good eating establishment. Sad.

Amazing for being in the middle of beef country BBQ is poor. Most of the franchise requests won't make a go of it unless located by the hotel/freeway.

I love mexican food, but, that is one area NP has plenty of variety. I would agree with the need for a good Italian spot. I would vote Napoli's over Olive Garden though.

I'd love to see an authentic Indian restaurant!! And a REAL Thai restaurant. The one that didn't make it downtown had nowhere near a real Thai menu.
