North Platte has been selected as the host of the 2013 American Legion Juniors State Baseball Tournament.
The eight-team tournament will take place at Bill Wood Field from July 27-31.
It is the third time that North Platte has been chosen to host a state baseball tournament.
In 2007, Bill Wood Field hosted the Juniors' state tournament and in 2011, it hosted the National Division of the Seniors' state tournament.
With the bid to host state, the North Platte First National Bank Juniors, coached by Adam Sterup, will receive automatic entry into state.
In the two recent state tournaments at Bill Wood Field, North Platte has done fairly well.
In 2007, the North Platte Juniors won their opening game against Columbus before falling to Millard West and current Nebraska pitcher Tyler Niederklein the next night. In the third game, the Junior First Nationals were eliminated by Lincoln Southwest.
In 2011, the North Platte Seniors lost to Millard South on the opening night before beating Twin Cities and Lincoln Northeast for their best state tournament finish since 1998. The First Nationals were eliminated by eventual state runner-up Grand Island in the next round.
