Three days after a tough loss in the SPVA tournament finals to Hershey, the North Platte St. Pat's girls' basketball team pounded Anselmo-Merna on Tuesday, 63-16. "It's always good after a loss to play with energy," said St. Pat's coach Nathan Stienike. "We came out tonight with the same passion that we played with on Saturday night." The Lady Irish (15-2) dominated from the opening tip. Samantha Byrn and Shelby Allberry scored the first two baskets of the game. Then Byrn got a three-point play to make it a 7-0 St. Pat's lead just over two minutes into the game. The Irish scored seven more points before Anselmo-Merna (1-14) got on the board. "We had a real quick start," Stienike said. "Our defensive pressure led to layups and Brook Boucher made some outside shots." St. Pat's led 18-2 at the end of the first quarter and the Lady Irish continued to dominate the rest of the way. They led 37-7 at halftime and 52-8 at the end of the third before closing it out.
