Tuesday's game between North Platte St. Pat's and Anselmo-Merna was a track meet.
With a high tempo, St. Pat's ran past the Coyotes 79-47 at the McGahan Activities Center.
"I thought the kids did a good job of running out in transition," said St. Pat's coach Bill O'Malley.
St. Pat's (14-2) scored the first nine points. Mark Mayfield, who scored 22 points on Jan. 19 in the Irish's SPVA finals win over Imperial, picked up right where he left off with seven of those first nine.
At the end of the first quarter, St. Pat's led 26-12. In the beginning of the second, Joseph Clinch scored the first six points of the quarter for the Irish.
From there, St. Pat's left Anselmo-Merna (7-7) in the dust. The score at halftime was 42-24. The Irish slowed down a bit in the third quarter but they never lost command to win their ninth straight game.
Clinch scored 27 points and Mayfield followed with 18. O'Malley said that the Coyotes' post players couldn't keep up with their speed.
"Those two, along with Alex Harms, are pretty strong inside players for us," he said. "The real advantage they have is that they run the court well."
