The North Platte Community College Knights men's basketball team lost by just one point Friday to the Lamar Runnin’ Lopes. At half, the Lopes held a 42-41 lead behind 10 points from Malcolm Brooks. The Knights were paced in the first half by 12 points from Tim Simmons and 11 from Ethan Montalvo. In the second half, the Knights picked up the defensive intensity and built an eight-point lead behind the hot shooting of Montalvo, who finished 26 points and 9 rebounds. But the Lopes chipped away at the lead. Brooks hit a contested 15-foot jump shot with 33 seconds left in what turned out to be the game winning shot. Montalvo’s shot at the buzzer fell short and the Knights suffered their fourth defeat of the season. Ben Wilson finished with 14 points for the Knights, who are now 12-4 overall and 3-2 in Region IX. The Lopes are 12-6 and undefeated (6-0) against Region IX competition. The Knights return to action Sunday when they travel to face the Hastings Broncos JV.
