Boys BB: St. Pat's 80, Southwest 39Tell North Platte what you think

"I thought we did a good job of getting a number of guys involved and we got good shots," said St. Pat's coach Bill O'Malley.

The Irish (11-2) started the game with a 10-0 run that was capped off with a transition layup by Mark Mayfield three minutes into the game.

St. Pat's led 15-6 at the end of the first quarter and Sean Keenan made a three-pointer for the Irish to start the second. After Keenan's trey, Mayfield scored again to make it 20-6.

Keenan then followed with a jumper just inside the three-point arc off of a wraparound pass by Mayfield. Then Joseph Clinch scored the next two baskets before Mayfield finished off the rally with a three that made it 29-6.

Against Southwest (2-11), St. Pat's was patient and really unselfish on offense which pleased their coach.

"I think the kids did a good job of finding the open man," O'Malley said.

The halftime score was 47-12. The Roughriders from eastern Red Willow County didn't have nearly enough firepower to get back into it. The Irish reserves got most of the playing time in the second half and they showed some promise as every player scored in the game.

St. Pat's now heads into the South Platte Valley Association tournament this coming week as the top seed.

"We just want to make sure we're fresh and playing well," said O'Malley. "It was good to play well in our last two games before the SPVA."
