Angelica Gray, 34, of North Platte pled no contest Friday to amended charges of child abuse and domestic assault in Lincoln County Court and was sentenced to 60 days on each charge.

The charges stem from an incident on Dec. 15, when police answered a disturbance report at the home of Dale and Angelica Gray. Dale who told them Angelica had become angry and yelled threats and obscenities at their 17-year-old daughter.

Dale said Angelica followed him up the stairs; hit him on the head with a bag and began punching him. When their son tried to intervene, Dale said she pushed him, causing her son to hit his head on a bed frame.

Angelica was originally charged with two counts of child neglect and two counts of domestic assault, but the Lincoln County Attorney’s Office amended the charges in exchange for her plea of no contest.

Lincoln County Judge Michael Piccolo gave her 23 days credit for time already served in jail and set the sentences to run at the same time.

Gentleman

Also, Cory Gentleman, 18, of North Platte, pled guilty to attempted possession of a controlled substance and was put on probation.

Defense attorney Russ Jones asked Piccolo to grant probation if Cory completes a chemical dependency evaluation. Piccolo agreed, sentencing Gentleman to nine months probation, with the conditions that random drug testing be conducted and Gentleman violate no laws during the probation period.

When Gentleman was stopped Dec. 12 for a traffic violation, the officer noticed he was fumbling under the front seat trying to conceal something. When a search was conducted, 10 pills were found that later tested as alprazalam (xanax), a prescription drug to treat anxiety and panic disorders. Xanax works by slowing down the movement of chemicals in the brain.

Gentleman was originally charged with possession but the charge was reduced in a plea bargain.
