BB: Knights defeat Trinidad State Tell North Platte what you think

The North Platte Community College Knights men's basketball team improved to 12-2 and 3-0 in the conference Friday, defeating the Trinidad State Trojans 86-55.

The Knights were paced by Ethan Montalvo paced the Knights with 28 points and 6 rebounds. Montalvo hit 11-15 from the field and 6-9 from three-point land.

“My teammates set some good screens for me to get open, after I hit one they all seemed to be going in,” said Montalvo.

At halftime, the Knights led 40-31 before opening up a double digit lead early in the second half behind Montalvo’s hot shooting.

“After a sluggish first four minutes, we put together a decent first half,” said Coach Kevin O’Connor. “After halftime we came out very focused and played well on both ends of the floor. It was one of our more complete halves of the year.”

As a team the Knights shot 52% from the field and 10-20 (50%) from the three-point line while holding the Trojans to 39 percent from the field.

The Knights also received double figure scoring from Damon Brown (14 pts, 7 assists, 5 steals), Tim Simmons (12 pts), Reath Jiech (10 pts) and Eric Richardson (10 pts, 6 rebounds). The Trojans were led by Kendall Godley with 18 points.

The Knights return to action Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. as they take on the defending Region IX Champions Otero Rattlers (13-4 overall, 1-2 in Region IX).
