Boys BB: St. Pat's 68, Overton 44Tell North Platte what you think

The North Platte St. Pat's boys' basketball team outmuscled Overton in a physical game on Friday night to win 68-44 at the McGahan Activities Center.

"I was really pleased with our persistence inside," said St. Pat's coach Bill O'Malley. "Even when we missed shots, we stayed with in and got it back up on the rim."

The Irish (10-2) got out to a 16-7 lead after Sean Keenan made a mid-range jump shot with a minute left in the first quarter.

After Caleb Ecklund scored the last two points of the quarter for Overton (6-5), St. Pat's scored the first seven points of the second to go up 23-9 on Alex Harms' layup.

At halftime, the Irish were still in control with a 36-24 lead.

"I thought we did a pretty good job on defense," O'Malley said. "We weren't giving up easy looks and we put pressure on their defense with our transition game."

St. Pat's was able to extend the lead in the third quarter. With a little over three minutes left in the third, the Irish went up 47-26 after Harms scored a layup off an outlet pass made by Keenan after getting the rebound.

It was plays like that which helped St. Pat's get the lead to over 20 points, said O'Malley.

"I was really happy with our ability to run in transition after getting the rebound," he said.

The Eagles couldn't get any closer the rest of the way and the Irish got a convincing win to start the weekend.
