Knights resume play with win in ColoradoTell North Platte what you think

The North Platte Community College Knights Men's Basketball team opened up the second half of the season on Tuesday with a 62-56 win at Region IX foe Northeastern Junior College to improve to 11-2. The Knights were paced by Ethan Montalvo’s 11 points and won their fourth game in a row. On the year, the Knights are led by Montalvo’s 15.8 ppg and Reath Jiech’s 12.4 ppg.

The Knights continue Region IX play this weekend with a road trip to Trinidad and La Junta, Colo. On Friday the Knights take on the 9-4 (2-1 Region IX) Trinidad State Trojans at 8:30 p.m. CST in Trinidad. The game will be broadcast on ESPN radio. The Trojans are led by Devonte Malcolm’s 21.1 points per game and Tyrell Taylor’s 13.7 points per game. North Platte will be the Trojans opening game of the second semester after entering Christmas break on a four game winning streak.

On Saturday the Knights head to La Junta to take on the 13-4 (1-2 Region IX) and the defending Region IX Champions Otero Rattlers at 3 p.m. CST. The game will be broadcast on ESPN radio. The Rattlers come into the game on a two game losing streak after falling to Laramie County Wednesday night 68-67. The Rattlers were led by Terrell Brown’s 25 points and Daniel Hield’s 14. Brown paces the Rattlers with 16.1 points per game on the season.

The Knights remain on the road next weekend, playing at Lamar on Friday, Jan. 18, and at Hastings JV on Sunday, Jan. 20. The Knights will return home on Wednesday, Jan. 23, to face the Laramie County Golden Eagles at 7 p.m.

Lady Knights fall to Northeastern

The North Platte Community College Lady Knights women’s basketball team travels to Lakewood, Colo. to take on the Colorado Christian JV at 3 p.m. CST on Saturday. The Lady Knights are 9-6 on the year after falling at Northeastern on Tuesday 72-54. The Lady Knights were led by Holdrege native Paige Hasty with 20 points and 7 rebounds and Maxwell native Courtney Widick with 14 points and 4 steals. On the year, Hasty leads the team with 15 ppg and 9.5 rpg and Widick contributes 13.4 ppg and 3.1 spg.

The game marks the second time the two teams have met on the year as North Platte defeated Colorado Christian at home 88-52 in December. The Lady Knights were led by DaVontaye Merritt’s 24 points. Widick contributed 18 points and Hasty had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. The Lady Cougars were led by Ashley Sha with 12 points.
