Sean McCarthy, 43, was sentenced to 60 days jail after pleading guilty in Lincoln County Court. Brenda McCarthy told police that she and Sean had an argument and he punched her in the face, and she had to leave their home, according to court documents.

In a plea agreement with the Lincoln County Attorney’s Office a charge of false reporting against McCarthy was dropped. He also received credit for six days already served. However, he is also being held as a fugitive from justice from Lancaster County which carries a $3,500 bond.

Shrives

Jay Shrives, 54, pled guilty to simple domestic assault and was sentenced to 60 days with nine days credit.

On Jan. 1 Shrives and his intimate partner argued and Jay pushed her head down and slapped her, causing a cut on her nose, police said. Shrives was jailed and held on a $5,000 bond.

Tobey

The case of Jeremy Tobey, 29, of North Platte, was continued to allow time for a public defender to be appointed.

Tobey is charged with three counts of domestic assault, terroristic threats, strangulation and use of a weapon to commit a felony, as well as child abuse. He is held on a $100,000 bond.

Tobey asked for a bond reduction, which was denied.

Lincoln County Judge Kent Turnbull recused himself from the case. He said Tobey once dated his daughter.

County Judge Michael Piccolo will consider the charges after an attorney is appointed for Tobey.

Not long ago there was an article about domestic violence being down in the area. I still see almost daily where there is a domestic abuse situation in the papers. How is the abuse down? There was even a quote of simple domestic battery. There is nothing simple about it. Abuse is abuse no matter how you look at it. Lincoln County needs to take a bigger stand on this abuse, whether it be a man abusing a woman or a woman abusing a man. It has to stop. Domestic abuse doesn't just hurt the person being abused, it hurts the children (if any) when they see or hear their parent being beaten and abused, whether it is physically, emotionally or verbally. I would like to encourage anyone who is in a domestic violence situation to get out, get help, because you are going to need it, and get help for your children as well. The cycle has to end, and if you are being abused, you can end that cycle. Don't let it be passed on by your children. Okay now getting off my soap box. I speak from firsthand knowledge.

Poor Turnbull. Every father's dream, sitting in judgment of one of your daughter's boyfriends - lethal injection - and he has to recuse himself.
