Nine out of 10 drivers use a seat belt the Lincoln County Sheriff said, after deputies worked overtime in November and December to enforce the "Click it or Ticket" effort, and the "You Drink and Drive, You Lose" campaign. Five deputies worked 67.5 overtime hours from Nov. 19-25. Pre- and post-observations of seat belt usage were 88% and 91% respectively, the sheriff said. During that time, deputies also wrote 93 warnings and citations and arrested two people for driving while intoxicated, but none of the citations were for seat restraint violations. Most of overtime hours worked were between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., the sheriff said. In the You Drink and Drive You Lose effort Dec. 14-Jan. 1, deputies worked a total of 44 hours and made 70 traffic stops. Those stops resulted in two DWI arrests, 4 speeding citations and 73 warnings for other traffic offenses, the statement said. Both efforts were funded by grants from by the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety.
