The Sutherland girls basketball team won a pair of games over the weekend, defeating both Gothenburg and Perkins County. The Sailors (8-2) beat Gothenburg 49-35 Friday, pulling away in the second half. The score was 23-20 at halftime.
“We pressed a little too hard in the first half,” Sutherland coach Jason Gunderson said. “In the second half, we got a some good ball movement, had lot of looks at the basket and hit our shots.”
Sutherland’s defense held Gothenburg (3-8) to just 15 points in the second half.
Sam Kennedy scored 22 points for the Sailors. Joli Hopping contributed 14. Jacey Wiggins was the only Gothenburg player to score in double figures, with 10 points.
