A farewell reception for well-known artist and writer Mary Beth Dodson will be held at the Art and Gift Gallery from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11. A popular, prolific artist and occasional Bulletin contributor, Dodson's artwork is currently on display at the gallery, including oils, watercolors, ink drawings, batik and handmade journals and books. Artist Sue Condon purchased an altered book, created by adding art and collage to the original pages. "My daughters love it," Condon said. "They find something different every time they look through it." A life-long resident of North Platte whose talents also include writing and a published book of poetry, Dodson is moving to Coronado, Calif. Family members live nearby, and Dodson has long been drawn to the beauty and history of the area. "I feel like my entire life has been scripted, leading up to this," Dodson said. "All the pieces have neatly fallen into place. I encourage friends to visit and I can share what I have learned about Coronado Island, a fascinating place with so much history.” Music will be provided by the string quartet, The Treblemakers, and Marlayna Blanchard on the piano. The Art and Gift Gallery is downtown on the bricks at 516 N. Dewey. The public is invited.
