Joseph Johnson, 35, was driving south on Elder at 10 a.m. in his 2002 Silverado pickup truck and had just crossed the Birchwood intersection, when he “either tried to turn or over-corrected and slid on the snow” into the garage at 601 S. Elder, just 50 feet past the intersection, police said.

Johnson tried to leave the scene but was arrested. Alcohol was a factor. Johnson was cited for driving under the influence of liquor. It was his third offense. His last DUI charge was in 2006, according to jail records.

Johnson was also charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and two traffic offenses.

The garage belongs to Connie Homan and sustained an estimated $15,000 in damages. The front end of pickup was damaged to the tune of $7,000, according to the police report.

We need to change the law in Nebraska, so that on a second offense of DUI the state can seize the vehicle and sale it off at auction to help pay for DUI enforement.

If someone is stupid enough to get a second DUI (or more), they are too stupid to own an automobile.
