An out of control SUV jumped two sets of railroad tracks Wednesday along Front St. downtown.

The car, a 1999 GMC Yukon, was driven by 61-year-old Deb Christensen of Brady.

It came barreling down Cottonwood St., went through a fence, hit a guard rail and ran square into the south set of railroad tracks on the Union Pacific main lines.

When the SUV hit the first set of tracks, it went airborne. It sailed over the second track set and landed hood first at the third set of tracks. Then the SUV flipped over on its top, finally coming to a rest between the third and fourth sets of tracks, according to a North Platte police report.

The wreck occurred about 5:30 p.m. Dec. 26. Christensen was wearing seat belts and the airbags deployed, so her injuries were not thought to be life-threatening. Drugs and alchohol were not thoguht to be factor. She was taken to Great Plains Regional Medical Center.

The SUV was totaled and damage to the fence was estimated at $8,000 and damage to the guard rail at $1,000, according to the police.
