Faced with the possibility of 4-7 inches of snow, city officials issued a snow alert at 11 a.m. Wednesday, giving notice to move cars from major streets if snow plows would be needed. But at 5 p.m., the liklihood that streets would need to be plowed was slim, North Platte Public Services Director Wes Meyer said. Meyer said less than three inches of snow had fallen during the storm and the snow alert would be lifted if the storm moves east as expected. Meyer said a half dozen city snowplow trucks were dispatched to check the streets and sand overpasses early in the afternoon. He said temperatures are forecast to warm to near 40 by Saturday and the light snow is not expected to develop into significant hardpack. North Platte police reported three accidents between noon and 3 p.m. on the icy streets, at Francis and Ash, B and Chestnut and Philip and Bicentennial.
