Three North Platte fire trucks responded to 2621 West 18th around 1 a.m. Tuesday, after the resident reported smoke and flames coming from under his front porch. North Platte Fire Captain Kleinow said the fire started on the front porch near the door and spread under the house via insulation to the back of the house. The cause is still under investigation. There were no electrical cords or wiring near where the fire started, Kleinow said. A municipal light and water serviceman shut the water off to the home after a pipe broke under the house. Firefighters successfully extinguished the blaze and by 1:45 a.m. the trucks returned to the station.
