Stephen Fischer of rural Hershey was sentenced Monday in Lincoln County District Court to 20-30 years in the state penitentiary on two counts of forcible sexual assault.

Lincoln County District Judge Richard Birch set the two sentences to run concurrently and credited Fischer, 36, with nine days served in the county jail.

Fischer was arrested on Sept. 11, 2011 and originally charged with three counts of first-degree sexual assault of a child. The charge was later reduced to two counts of forcible sexual assault against someone who cannot defend themselves.

Before sentencing, defense attorney Blaine Gillette asked the court to consider that Fischer’s offenses were limited and not long-term abuses. Gillette also told the court that Fischer has a problem with alcohol abuse that he is fighting.

But Chief Deputy Lincoln County Attorney Tonya Roberts-Connick said Fischer had opportunities in the past to get treatment during some prior run-ins with the law, but did not take the opportunity.

Birch took all that into consideration before handing down the sentence. He told Fischer that he must register as a sex offender for life.

When Fischer was arrested, deputies acted on a report from a child under age 12 who said Fischer sexually assaulted her at least three times.

Fischer is the brother of the now deceased Daniel Fischer who was arrested in April 2011 for nine counts of child molestation and, while he was out on bond, killed himself.

i can gaurantee you if my family members were in trouble for raping and molesting CHILDREN, I am the last person who would be on here defending them and turning a blind eye. Kids need and deserve to be protected from these sick freaks period! End of story. No wait...these freaks deserve what they get and then some and the women who defend them and tell everyone what a liar and a whore the victim is..these women are even sicker then these perps are. Lock them all up. Protect the kids and stop trying to save face.

Speaking of karma.....I hope one day your family member ends up on the bulletin and people can talk crap about them. No matter what he has been accused of or convicted of he has a family that loves him. Why hurt them....does saying bad things about others make all of you feel good. Just remember karma....and hottest sheets....see you or your family member there...

I think the fact that his brother opted out as they say proves his guilt.

I am pleased with this sentence. It's about time a perp got a proper sentence for violating a child. I don't care about his family when they get on here defending this kind of filth!!!!! Too bad his coward brother won't be sharing his cell with him for twice the sentence.

My heart goes out to the victim & her family. This is an inexcusable act. However, there are other victims, as well. Fischer's family has endured much, & while you want to "string him up", which is your right to your opinion, please keep in mind that his family, those not involved in any of this, are hurting. I'd rather pray for everyone involved than to cast stones into a pond already stilled by grief. JMO.

I remember vividly how a relative or someone associated with this family vehemently blamed the community and talk back for lynching these people. Where are the excuses now?

"Before sentencing, defense attorney Blaine Gillette asked the court to consider that Fischer’s offenses were limited and not long-term abuses."

So he admits that he did do it then? Molesting a kid once is no different than molesting them 10 times, its wrong either way. 20-30 years is a good sentence, at least he isn't walking free.
