Hayes Center came out on top of an explosive overtime period Friday to defeat Sutherland, 51-50.

The teams played evenly through most of the game. Sutherland (0-6) held a four-point lead at halftime but Hayes Center (3-3) evened it up in the fourth quarter

With the score 40-40, the teams duked it out in overtime, getting their offenses in gear and scoring nearly as many points as a quarter.

Hayes Center scored 11 in OT. Sutherland scored 10.

"This was a hard fought game," Hayes Center Coach Louis Cuellar said. "This is another good game by my group of underclassmen. We put ourselves in position to win and we made the plays to do it. Both teams played their tails off."

Tyler Fear scored 23 points for Sutherland. Seth Gohl had 20 to lead Hayes Center, and Gohl contributed six key steals on defense.
