For weeks, the county website has been compromised. Instead of taking a viewer to such offices as assessor, clerk and treasurer, it leads to a website that offers prescription drugs from India or Canada.

Officials are working to clean the site, County Clerk Rebecca Rossell said Tuesday, but she expects it will remain hacked for another week or so.

During the first week of December, from the Google search page, the county website linked to a “Healthy People” site that offered generic drugs, including viagra, from India.

On Thursday, Dec. 13, the site linked to similar offerings from Canada.

Rossell said the hack does not appear on courthouse computers, probably due to a better-than-average protective firewall.

Rossell said the site was reported to be hacked in late November, and she reported it to the IT administrator, who found an unauthorized administrator and removed him.

But the site still remains compromised.

The hacked website has offered such medicines as generic forms of Levitra, Viagra and Cialis for erectile dysfunction, generic Lasix, used in the treatment of congestive heart failure, as well as the antibiotic ciprofloxin.

On Google, the Lincoln County website is marked with a simple warning that says “This site may be compromised.” To remedy the situation, Google advises contacting the webmaster of the site, which has been done, Rossell said.

In the meantime, the Google warning advises users to be careful about providing personal information.

From a Yahoo search engine, the words "Lowest price Viagra" and "Viagra Shipped" appear next to the search bar after "Lincoln County Nebraska" is entered, but from there the county website opens as it should.

Also, copying and pasting the web address www.co.lincoln.ne.us into a browser window seems to circumvent the hack.

This sounds to me more like a DNS record has been compromised. If county computers can see the correct website but not anyone else, it would indicate that they are seeing something different from the rest of us. The DNS server in the courthouse would tell courthouse computers to use a certain IP address to go to the website, but DNS servers out on the internet (outside of the courthouse) will tell everyone else to go to a different IP address which sends us to the viagra site. Either that or Hewgley is trying to tell us something.....

Unbelieveable.....just this week E911 suggesting we put lots of personal & family/household in the city/county computer system. It doesn't sound like they worthy of our trust.
