Peru State College running back and North Platte native Joel Woodhead was named a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy. The Campbell Trophy, chosen by the National Football Foundation, selects a college football player as the best scholar athlete in the nation. Woodhead, the son of Mark and Annette Woodhead and younger brother of New England Patriots running back Danny Woodhead, was listed as 147 players in NCAA and NAIA for the award. Woodhead, an Exercise Science major, has maintained a 3.83 grade point average. He has also been named as a Daktronics NAIA Scholar Athlete, each of the last two seasons. For the last three seasons after transferring from Chadron State College, Woodhead has played running back for the Bobcats. He only appeared in two games this year. His best season in Peru came as a sophomore in 2010. In his first season on the team, Woodhead had 462 rushing yards.
