Smart 911 enables citizens to create a Safety Profile online, with information about their household that they want 9-1-1 to have in an emergency. When an emergency call is made, their profile is immediately delivered to the 9-1-1 call taker, resulting in better response.

Knowing vehicle information can assist in locating an accident, or knowing there are pets on the property can help provide a safe response, officials say.

Smart911 is a nation-wide service. Citizens create a Safety Profile at www.Smart911.com, entering information they want about themselves and family members, a residence, including data on medical conditions, disabilities and/or special needs, children’s photos, home addresses of mobile phone callers, home utility details and emergency contacts, for example.

“Knowing how many people are in a home and where the bedroom locations are can make a significant difference in a home fire,” said North Platte Fire Chief Paul Peterson.

Smart911 is currently available in 26 states and over 300 municipalities.

Having a Safety Profile helped quickly find a missing child. The girl’s photo and physical description was distributed to deputies while the mother was still on the phone with 9-1-1, according to Tom Axbey, president and CEO, Rave Mobile Safety, The girl was recovered safely soon after the call was placed.

“Currently when we receive an incoming 9-1-1 call, we have limited information. That is especially true for calls from mobile phones,” said Mary Ann Agler, Telecommunications Supervisor for the North Platte Police Department.

While this is a great service, it is also scary. To me this is like Facebook and OnStar. Yeah, they're nice and fun when its voluntary, but in a generation or two when stuff like this is mandatory we're going to be sorry we ever willingly entered our private information into databases and let satellites track us and whatnot. Thats one reason while I'll never go to London, zero privacy and zero anonymity.
