HERSHEY-Sean Keenan scored 30 points on Saturday to lead North Platte St. Pat's to a 65-49 win over Hershey.
"I thought Sean had a good attacking mentality," said St. Pat's coach Bill O'Malley. "It really helped us because we struggled some offensively."
Other than Keenan's outburst, there wasn't much flow or rhythm to the contest. Hershey (1-3) led 11-6 four minutes into the game. But St. Pat's (3-0) came back to lead 14-13 at the end of the first after Brandon Niesen's putback at the buzzer.
Both teams battled in the second quarter, but the Irish got some cushion late in the first half when Joseph Clinch made a pair of free throws with nine seconds left to make it 25-20.
In the third quarter, St. Pat's started to take control around the basket. But the Irish's gains in that area were negated by the outside shooting of Colton Marshall and Tyson Osborne for Hershey.
The third quarter was a deadlock and St. Pat's still led by five going into the fourth.
The Irish then scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter for a 52-39 lead to essentially put it out of reach.
"We finally were able to get some consistent offense and we got the ball inside to Joseph Clinch," O'Malley said.
Panther coach Dustin Jorgenson said that St. Pats' defensive play made his team to reliant on the three-pointer, which accounted for nearly half of Hershey's scoring.
"I thought the kids battled hard," said Jorgenson. "St. Pat's is a good team and I am proud of our effort. We've just got to get better. St. Pat's did a great job on defense and we were out of sync."
