Two die in trailer house fire, man arrested Tell North Platte what you think

Two people died early Saturday morning in a fire at a trailer house in northeast Nebraska, leading to the arrest of a 33-year-old man.

Just after midnight on Dec. 8, the Antelope County dispatch received a 911 call of a domestic dispute that possibly involved weapons at a rural Antelope County home. Deputies from Antelope and Holt County sheriff’s offices, along with Nebraska State Patrol troopers, responded, NSP spokeswoman Deb Collins said.

As the officers approached the area of the initial call, dispatch informed them the Ewing Fire Department was responding to a 911 call of a fire in the vicinity -- a mile and three-quarters east of Ewing on County Road 857.

Upon arrival there, deputies found a trailer home engulfed in flames.

Deputies were told by a man who escaped the home that two people may still be inside. Once the fire was extinguished, two bodies were found in a bedroom in the southwest corner of the residence. The man who escaped the fire was uninjured and released after questioning.

Around 1 a.m., Holt and Antelope County deputies went to rural Ewing home and arrested Matthew Hinrichsen, 33, Ewing into custody for questioning in connection with the fire and deaths in the trailer home.

Hinrichsen is in custody at the Madison County Jail without bond, Collins said Saturday afternoon.

The bodies of the victims were taken to St. Luke’s Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. The names of the victims are not released, pending autopsy results, positive identification and notification of relatives.

The investigation is ongoing. The Nebraska State Patrol is assisting the Antelope County Attorney, the Antelope and Holt County sheriff’s offices and the State Fire Marshal in the investigation, Collins said.
