Ortiz waived his right to two preliminary hearings Friday in Lincoln County Court.

In one case, Ortiz is charged as a felon in possession of a firearm. In another, he is charged with terroristic threats and use of a firearm to commit a felony.

Ortiz was arrested on Nov. 19 during a traffic stop for failure to signal a lane change. A search of the car turned up two handguns and a shotgun. Ortiz, who was a passenger, was already wanted on a warrant for terroristic threats. A man told police on Nov. 11 that, during a disturbance in the 400 block of N. Poplar, Ortiz had pointed a gun at him. The man said Ortiz ran out of the house before he called the cops. Ortiz could not be found at the time and a warrant was issued.

Lincoln County Judge Michael Piccolo bound both charges against Ortiz over to district court and in accordance with an agreement with the Lincoln County Attorney’s Office, he lowered Ortiz’ bond from $100,000 to $65,000. If Ortiz posts bond, he will be required to report to the sheriff’s office every weekday, Piccolo said.

The car was driven by Stephen Marquez of North Platte.

Marquez, a convicted felon, was also arrested and jailed for possession of firearms. Another passenger in the car, Kenneth Cassel, was charged with being an accessory to the felony possession.
