Students help prepare for Santa's Workshop.

Santa and several elves paid a visit to North Platte Community College Wednesday evening to help kick off the college’s annual “Santa’s Workshop."

“We had a great turnout,” said NPCC softball coach Janelle Higgins. “It was a way to give back to the community and to get people out to the college.”

During the evening, kids of all ages and plenty of volunteers joined in craft making, cookie decorating, and lots of other holiday activities.

The evening included two puppet shows presented by the NPCC Lady Knights softball team using puppets created by NPCC employee Nancy Eisele and a puppet stage made by Rex Kemp.

“Nancy did a great job getting the puppets ready,” Higgins said. “Members of the non-traditional students group manned the door, while the softball players, student senate and the international student group helped with crafts.”

Higgins noted that north campus students Jesse Barnes and Mitch Hartman and volleyball player Whitney Smith played “major roles” during the evening. She also gave thanks to Jessica Hinrichs, Erica Lieber and Stanley Mugeki for their help with the event.

“With more than 300 people in attendance the event was a huge success!” said Mugeki, Director of Housing/Student Activities. “A large amount of non-perishable food was donated, which the college will donate to local food banks. In short, this is a great way for the college to give back to the local community. It truly leaves a lasting impression on the majority of the kids. A lot of people put in a lot of time and energy to make this event successful and all of them deserve credit for a job well done.”
