North Platte Community College’s McDonald-Belton Theater has a new look thanks to major renovations.

The theater was constructed in 1980, according to Ron Axtell, Director of Physical Resources. The college board of governors approved remodel bids in May 2012.

Work began immediately and was completed in November.

The remodeling consisted of repairing/retexturing the ceiling, new paint, new carpet, polished concrete floors under the lower seating area, new acoustical wall panels, new doors, hardware and electronic card access, plus 302 new theater seats. The sound system and stage lighting was also upgraded.

Axtell gave high praise to the NPCC maintenance staff and to several firms and contractors for their help with the project.

“Farris Engineering and WHSA Architects provided the architectural and mechanical engineering services,” he said. “Dowhower Cabinets was the general contractor for the remodel, with their sub-contractors being Select Carpet, Pagel Electric, Kucera Painting, MidWest Door, Blankenship Meier, Mitchell Drywall and AMAX.”

Axtell said the college maintenance staff remodeled the dressing rooms with the assistance of Dowhower Cabinets, AMAX and Morland Enterprises. Westbrook Audio and Heartland Scenic provided the upgrades to the sound and lighting systems with assistance from Pagel Electric and the NPCC maintenance staff. The new seating, including ADA provisions, was provided by Mid-State School Supply.

Axtell singled out one sub-contractor in particular, Ryan Brown Flooring, for their work on the floors.

“When you go replacing carpet on a curved, tiered seating layout it’s a very difficult process. Ryan’s professionalism and meticulous attention to detail is evident with the end result being an excellent carpet job,” he said, adding, “All the vendors who worked on the project and the NPCC maintenance staff deserve a hearty thanks for a job well done.”
