It's a fine sentiment: When filling out Christmas cards this year, take a card and send to A Recovering American Soldier, c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center. But don't do it because it won't get there. No one can fault the intent, or the need, to give a special thanks and bit of cheer to our soldiers, but in these days of heightened mail security, the U.S. Postal Service won't deliver mail to such people as "A Soldier" or 'A Recovering Soldier" because the mail could become a conduit for those who seek to harm members of the armed forces. Military hospitals will not accept cards, letters or packages addressed in such a manner for the same reason, according to the online fact checking service, Snopes. Pass this on and think of how many cards good-hearted people will send that will never be sent.
