Just before 11:30 p.m., a trooper stopped an eastbound 2012 Mazda for speeding three miles east of North Platte, Nebraska State Patrol spokeswoman Deb Collins said.

The trooper smelled marijuana from the car. Collins said a probable cause search led to the seizure of 25.5 pounds of marijuana in 15 packages, wrapped in Christmas paper in the trunk.

The driver was Robert L. McLeod, 25, of Sunrise, Fla. McLeod and a passenger, Benjamin T. Whitted, 28, of Lauderhill, Fla., were both lodged in the Lincoln County Jail, charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.

Their bonds were set at $250,000 each.

It was the first of two weekend traffic stops that led to the seizure of 58.5 pounds of marijuana.

Around 5:15 p.m., on Saturday, a trooper stopped a 2012 Chevy Impala for speeding on eastbound I-80 near the Lincoln Airport Exit in Lancaster County.

An NSP canine indicated the odor of drugs coming from the back of the vehicle, leading to the seizure of 33 pounds of marijuana contained in two duffel bags in the trunk, Collins said.

The female driver of the vehicle, Hui Yuan Chen, 23, of Oakland, Calif., was lodged in the Lancaster County Corrections on a charge of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.
