St. Patrick’s blew open the game in the third quarter Saturday to defeat Sutherland, 51-39. Brittany Lawrence scored 24 points for the Irish – 16 of them in the third quarter, when the Irish poured in 22 points. The Sailors got in foul trouble early, Coach Jason Gunderson said, putting three starters on the bench before halftime. In the third quarter, no one could stop the 6’3” Lawrence. The Irish led by 17 points going into the fourth quarter. St. Pat’s went to the free throw line 26 times in the game. Jaylene Schuster and Sam Staggs each scored 13 for Sutherland. Nine of Staggs’s points were from three point territory. Sutherland is 1-1 in the early going, after beating Broken Bow 62-37 on Thursday.
