Core Stryker: Embarrassing Husker defenseTell North Platte what you think

Ya have to wonder: Was this the worst defensive coaching job of the Bo Pelini era?

Everything the Wisconsin offense tried, worked, and the Huskers could not adjust to any of it as the Badgers rolled to a 70-31 win Saturday night in the Big Ten Championship Game at Indianapolis.

e Wisconsin outflanked Nebraska on the edges, and once that happened, the Huskers were helpless against the Badgers' power running. The Blackshirts solved nothing all night long and allowed Wisconsin to roll to a third consecutive trip to the Rose Bowl.

I could foresee NU having some problems with Wisconsin's inside running game, since Baker Steinkuhler was out with an injury. Steinkuhler, who has had an up-and-down career, was finally playing the best football of his career at the end of his senior season.

But the way Nebraska surrendered huge chunks of yards on identical jet sweeps – over and over again – was criminal.

Either Steinkuhler is the best Husker defensive lineman of all time, or Bo Pelini, John Papuchis and the Blackshirts simply were not ready for the Badger running game. The fifth-year seniors that fill the defensive roster were thoroughly outplayed by a relatively young Wisconsin team.

So many problems, so little time to discuss them. Here are the first three that stood out:

1. This was a colossal collapse of leadership by a bunch of Husker seniors who did a fine job recovering from a midseason meltdown at Columbus, Ohio.

2. Where were Rex Burkhead and Ameer Abdullah in the first half? Completely under-utilized, that's where.

3. The variety of offensive sets – including unbalanced lines, wildcat action and even the old swinging gate – seemed to discombobulate the Husker defenders and their coaches. They started playing tentatively, with disastrous results.

Not to be disrespectful, Im...but Memorial Stadium is full to capacity every single game for many years. That brings, as new comer pointed out, revenue to the city/state. Granted, this game wasn't in NE, but there were NE fans there, contributing to the economy of that state. Just possibly, with everything going on in the world, if we get a few hours to all join together for a cause, our Huskers, that can't be a bad thing, can it?

Hey Imnotkidding, I'm sure that there are other articles that may interest you better that may save you waiting your time making such ridiculous statements. Husker football is a huge economic boost to the State, this is well documented. Losing to a five loss team on a national stage in the fashion they did, is a big deal. Wise up!

With everything going on in the world today maybe husker football shouldn't be such a high priority. Husker fans Grow Up!

The way NU played(?) do they even deserve to go to a bowl...maybe the Puppy Bowl? Nah...little tykes would run circles around them.

I think that might be the worst part of this loss, harleyman! Now we have to go play an SEC team who is going to shred our defense once again. It will be a looooooooong winter if Nebraska turns in another performance like this in their bowl game.

There was no adjustment on defense and when there was needed a timeout to get it together none was called. There is talk NE will either play A&M or South Carolina in a bowl game. Be prepared for another butt kicking.

Here comes another pathetic bowl invitation, perhaps a win against another inconsistent/mediocre team and months of hoping that next season, the team can get its act together and play consistently. Yawn.
