A 31-year-old man was hit and killed by a Union Pacific train at about 6:45 p.m. Thursday in Gering. The Gering Citizen reported that the accident happened just east of the Country Club Road crossing. A preliminary investigation found that Brendan Pratt was on the tracks before the collision. He was about 300 feet east of the crossing, the Citizen reported. According to an unconfirmed, anonymous report that was made to the Bulletin, Pratt was laying on the tracks, and the train came though a curve and was headed downhill. Family members have been notified and an autopsy scheduled. Although Pratt was a Gering-area resident, he had no fixed address, the Citizen said. Several agencies responded, including law enforcement, rescue crews and Union Pacific. More information will be released as the investigation continues.
